Job Description
The Middlebury College Sailing Club is part of the Middlebury College club sports program and is administered by club members and student officers. The Middlebury Sailing Team sails out of Dunmore Acres, on Lake Dunmore in Salisbury, Vermont, approximately 20 minutes from campus. The team practices with twelve 2008 FJ’s. It also owns 3 Larks and four 420’s used for recreation purposes. The team also owns 2 motor boats. Our team is still developing, with sailors of varying abilities. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic coach, committed to building a stronger foundation of sailing skills for newer sailors, increasing the competitiveness of seasoned ones, and helping improve the program.
Responsibilities: ▪Coordinate racing practice 3 days per week -Write practice plans, season curriculum and team goals -Direct training drills on the water -Organize team scrimmages •Direct the Middlebury Cup Regatta with the assistance of student members. -Weekend Commitment Saturday September 18, 2010. -Manage 12 competing teams (48 sailors) -Serve as Race Coordinator and Race Committee chair ▪Travel with racers to top scoring events in New England (weekends 9/4 - 11/14*) ▪Facilitate team growth and improvement -Serve as outside authority figure and mentor to students -Work with top racers to become more competitive in higher level regattas -Teach fundamentals of racing to new team members
Job Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree •College sailing or coaching experience •US Sailing Level 1 Certification •Experience teaching sailing for another school, yacht club, or sailing program. •Outstanding organization and leadership skills
