Melges 19 Invite Results and Recap

Eleven boats from around the country gathered at Lake Minnetonka Yacht Club in Minnesota for the Melges 19 Minnetonka Invitational. This was a strong showing for the Melges 19 class that newly launched in September of 2025. With fleets represented from Lake Geneva WI, Minnetonka MN, and Annapolis MD, the growing Melges 19 community seized the opportunity to get in some competitive races before the Winter Series events at Merritt Island.
Saturday delivered ideal conditions: a northwesterly breeze of 10-20 knots, perfect planing conditions for the fleet. Vakaros units lit up with top speeds reaching 19 mph as the fleet pushed hard through four races starting at 11 am. Christopher Stocke, Trevor Davis, and John Loe each took a race win, but it was consistency that ruled the day. Art Brereton, sailing USA 101 Happy Feet out of Torch Lake, quietly built a bulletproof scorecard — a third, two seconds, and a sixth — to claim the overall lead heading into Sunday.
Sunday told a different story. A stubborn high-pressure system killed the breeze and, after a patient wait on standby, the race committee called the event at 11 am. Saturday’s results stood as final.
