byHeather Kerns

The 2026 Etchells National Championship took place October 9-11 at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts. 33 boats were registered for the event. Hosted by Etchells Fleet 4, the championship saw seven races completed, with competitors discarding their worst score.

James Cunningham, Steve Hunt, Erik Shampain, and Serena Village aboard Lifted (SDYC / NYYC) claimed the national title with 11 net points. Their consistent results gave them a narrow edge over the competition, with the title coming down to just one point.

Tomas Hornos, Andrew Macrae, and Ron Weed aboard Cruel Jane (Boston YC / Eastern YC) finished second with 12 net points, keeping the pressure on Lifted throughout the series. Team Cruel Jane won two races and finished just one point behind the champions.

Rounding out the podium, Jud Smith, Marc Gauthier, and Steve Girling aboard Fast Mermaid (Eastern Yacht Club) finished third with 17 net points. Fast Mermaid recorded two race wins during the seven-race series to secure a spot on the podium.
