Over the weekend of June 27–28, Portland Yacht Club welcomed an impressive fleet of 80 Club 420s, 160 sailors in total, for the 2026 Club 420 New England Championship For The Erik C. Menyhart Trophy.
A staple of summer sailing in New England, Casco Bay provided the perfect backdrop for six races of championship competition. With talented teams representing clubs and programs from across the region, the fleet was packed with depth, making every race count.
When the scores were tallied, Miles Gordon and Zoe Lindberg (One United/DRYC) stood atop the leaderboard with 21 net points. Their championship was built on consistency, posting just one race outside the single digits.
The battle for the remaining podium spots was just as exciting. Hayes Lewis and Piper Youngs (ClarkFleet/Pequot Yacht Club) finished second with 34 net points, narrowly holding off Duffy Macaulay and Hudson Grow (ClarkFleet), who finished third with 37 points. Just three points separated the two teams by the end of the six-race series.
Dylan Cafferty and Lilly Menyhart (One United/Edgartown YC/Hyannis YC) secured fourth overall despite having a black flag on their scoreline. The pair closed out the event with a win in Race 5 and a second-place finish in Race 6.
Rounding out the top five were Sander Skaane and Elinor Grant (ClarkFleet). A pair of top three finishes helped propel the team into the top five in a highly competitive fleet.
