2010 ICSA National Championship Western Semifinal
University of Washington – Sail Sand Point
May 1-2, 2010
Saturday started with a postponement on shore as a light southerly switched
to the north. A-fleet started racing shortly after noon in a steady 8 knots.
Winds began to die at the start of race 2A and remained light for the
remainder of the afternoon. 2 race were finished in A and B-fleet. Sailors
and coaches were treated to a delicious dinner by Stephanie of Course
Catering.
Sunday: Races got underway at 9:30 in a steady southerly. Wind speeds stayed
between 6-10 knots. Shifts came from both sides of the course and kept races
close all day. The battle for 9th place, and the last berth to the finals,
lasted until the last B fleet race with only 5 points between Stanford, U
Miami and Eckerd. Courses were W4’s and W5’s with a windward finish right at
the dock. 8A and 8B races were sailed for a total of 10 in each division for
the weekend.
A huge thanks to PRO Jay Renehan and all the members of race committee that
braved the cool temps and occasional showers. Thanks as well to our Judges
Charlie Macaulay, Brian Watkins, Norm Smit and Jared Hickman, our ICSA Rep
Danielle Richards and Event Chair Molly Jackson.
Congratulations to the top nine teams:
Yale, St. Mary’s Seahawks Roger Williams, Old Dominion, Harvard, Hobart &
William Smith, Salve Regina, NY Maritime, Stanford for qualifying for the
2010 ICSA National Championship at the University of Wisconsin.
