From the SYC Website:
The Southold Yacht Club has been promoting a love of sailing in our beautiful waterways for over 80 years. We are a small family-oriented club open to all who have a love of sailing. Our mission is to make sailing accessible to the North Fork community and, therefore, we keep dues and program fees at an affordable level for families and individuals. Our beautiful setting on the sandy shores of Southold Bay is the perfect location to sail and join community members in summertime activities.
Our membership includes new members as well as families who have sailed at Southold Yacht Club for generations. Both old and new join together to create a fun, safe and inclusive community. Volunteerism drives our club and is the backbone of our existence. Every summer people help out on the land and water to run regattas, weekly races, social events and annual fundraisers. Our community members help with everything from food for events, race registration, driving safety boats, and club clean up.
Our junior sailing program is the heart of our club, helping young sailors to learn to sail in a variety of boats and at varying levels. Whether first time sailors or competitive racers, our young sailors learn about sailing, rigging boats and tying knots. Most importantly, they learn about safety on and off the water. Most instructors have been students in our sailing program, every summer moving to the next fleet and skill level. It’s not surprising that often these sailors return with children of their own.
Our clubhouse is an historic one-room space with an adjoining porch, kitchen, snack bar and lavatory facilities. Our exterior property includes a fenced in storage area for small boats, a ramp for dinghys, and a shaded picnic area with a sensational view of Southold Bay. The primary use of the clubhouse is to house our Junior Sailing Program in the summer months. Swimming is accessible from our beautiful beach, and supervised swimming is convenient at the adjacent public beach and playground.
