Optimist NJ State Championship Results & Report

8/17/2021 – Brant Beach YC, NJ– The BBYC once again hosted an impeccable youth regatta, blessed by near perfect weather with light/moderate but consistent E-SE winds, along with ample sunshine, over this two-day event. The seasoned and sharp RC did a fine job managing and herding the 125+ boats out there while keeping courses in range, fair, and fun. Judges also seemed to watch closely, but also allow the sailors to do their thing within the rules, and it was a nice breath of fresh air to simply watch good sailboat racing. If you are ever considering attending a regatta at Brant Beach, the answer must always be YES. This is a great sailing club that has wonderful facilities!

Throwing out a 3 over six races, James Pine showed the form that earned him 1st place at the Team Trials earlier this year. In fact, it was amazing to see that only 3 of the top 20 overall finishers were throwing out a finish outside the top 20. This meant that the racing was fair, consistent, and that these sailors are good! Wills Gandy dominated the Silver Fleet results, likely ending his silver career with a great send-off.
