Yale survived the Friis with only one loss and took a strong 2nd to Harvard at the 16-team Graham HallChris Klevan
Yale came up short in the first two head to head matchup against rival, Harvard. While I did not watch the sailing, it seemed to me conditions last weekend at the Graham Hall were pretty decent and speed oriented. This Yale team has two college sailor of the year level sailors and last year's high school A-Division champion, who seems to have won the starting nod over last year's frosh standout, Stephan Baker. I would expect a bounce back performance from this team imminently.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
It's a tight race at the top. Yale gets my first place vote after a strong 2nd behind Harvard at the Graham Hall and a close 2nd to RWU a the Friis. We have at least 4-5 teams at the top all capable of taking wins off each other so it should be an exciting championship - Stanford University3Stanford UniversityStanford, California3.2

Before a rough trip to a shortened storm regatta at Roger Williams, Stanford won two East Coast majors on the same weekend, The Bavier at Charleston and the St. Mary's Invite.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
A slight setback at the shortened Friis trophy, but with a solid win at the St. Mary's team race still on their resume, I don't see any reason to bump them out of the top 4. In lighter conditions than they saw at the Friis this past weekend, this team is right back in the conversation with Harvard, Yale, and RWU for best in the nation - Brown University4Brown UniversityProvidence, Rhode Island4.2
Ken Legler
Brown has been a bit inconsistent in the first half of this team racing season but they're tough and take a race or two off of anybody.Chris Klevan
Scrappy. The sometimes-over-looked "third best" team is NEISA is poised to play spoiler. They beat Harvard decisively in the final four of the Graham Hall and Skipper of the Year hopeful Conner Nelson looks to remind those ready to anoint Harvard Champions again before the season gets going that there's a whole lot fo sailing left.Isaac Clark
Their speedtails aren't slowing these cowboys down. Staying away from umpire calls will help them win races.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
Like Stanford, a bit of a setback at the Friis keeps them out of the top 4, but a 3rd at the Graham Hall proved that this team is closer to that top 4 than the group behind them. I expect to see them back firmly in that top 4-5 group through the Marchiando and NEISA champs - Roger Williams University5Roger Williams UniversityBristol, Rhode Island4.6

The Hawks have accumulated wins at home and the Southern New England Team while charging to 2nd at St. Mary'sChris Klevan
Second at the St. Mary's team race doesn't tell me very much. First at the SNETR tells me more. We'll see how they do at home this weekend.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
With a win at the SNETR and again at the Friis over Harvard and Yale, RWU has proven they deserve to be in the discussion for best team in the nation. But I have them just barely behind Harvard and Yale in this round of rankings. These three teams will see plenty of each other moving forward this season and I'm sure we'll see plenty of wins traded amongst them - Georgetown University6Georgetown UniversityWashington, DC6.2

The Georgetown Hoyas remain the top MAISA team but Navy and St. Mary's are catching up. My guess is that they stay ahead in MAISA.Chris Klevan
It took some time for this team to lose a race thsi season but when they finally did it was a bit humbling. They met the top of NEISA at the end of the Graham Hall and failed to beat even two boats finsihing, 4-5-6, 4-5-6 and 3-5-6. I think this team is at the top of tier 2.Isaac Clark
I'd expect Georgetown to crescendo at the Prosser again this year in their preferred college sailing vessel at ODU. After emerging from the 7 circles from the 2023 season, I believe this team has the experience and motivation to fight onto the podium at nationals.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
I have Georgetown and Navy in a close fight for 6th and 7th with Georgetown getting the edge for their convincing 4th place at the Graham Hall in spite of losing a tiebreak to Navy for the win at the Szambecki. Georgetown is clearly capable of mixing it up with the best in the country - US Coast Guard Academy7US Coast Guard AcademyNew London, CT7.2
Chris Klevan
Overlooked, this team can find the final four at nationals if things break their way. Expect Coach Thompson, the only driver in the history of sailing to win a Hinman Championship, a Wilson Trophy and a Morgan Cup all in the same year to make sure things do break their way. The rise of CGA, may help make this field one of the deepest in memory. While Harvard are clearly the favorite, it strikes me that many team have a shot at winning should Harvard fall short. They have started quite slowly this season after a great fall season. I expect the Bears to wake from a seemingly prolonged hibernation sooner rather than later.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
CGA are right in the mix for the top 8 with a strong 2nd a the SNETR, the Bob Bavier, and a solid showing at the Friis. They have yet to meet Dartmouth or St. Mary's and likely won't see the latter until nationals, but I have these three teams quite close. - US Naval Academy8US Naval AcademyAnnapolis, Maryland8.2

In three big regattas, the Midshipman finished in order 3rd at St. Mary's, 6th of 16 at home and a close win at the Szambecki shows how consistent this team is. Practices must be going well.Chris Klevan
This team is scrappy but perhaps a bit undisciplined. They had strong boatlanding and some sneaky wheels. Look for rookie driver, Henry Algeier to surprise some people.Isaac Clark
I've been really impressed with this group's trajectory this year. An all underclassmen group of starting skippers winning the DC Team Race, 3rd at the SMC TR, and winning the Szambecki is pretty incredible. Their top 3 crews of Smith, Wahba, and Alex might be the best crew line-up in the game right now.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
I have Navy and Georgetown in a close fight for 6th and 7th. Georgetown gets the edge for their full season results thus far, but with a tiebreak win at the Szambecki this past weekend, Navy is showing that they are right there with Georgetown as the best team in MAISA and are firmly a top 8 team at nationals - St. Mary's College9St. Mary's CollegeSt Marys City, Maryland9
Chris Klevan
This historically great team hasn't been quite that in some years. However, Bill Ward is one of the best coach's around and Adam Werblow is eager to remind the ICSA that his Seahawk's days of team race royalty aren't yet behind us.Isaac Clark
Equally impressed with the Seahawks this year as I am with Navy.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
I really shouldn't be surprised that this team is overperforming expectations, but after the graduation of Leo Boucher and the loss of one of their other starting skippers, I thought this was going to be a down year for St. Mary's. They certainly proved me wrong by arguably outperforming even their results from last year. The Seahawks have proven themselves a clear top three team in MAISA who are capable of mixing it up with the best teams in the nation - College of Charleston10College of CharlestonCharleston, South Carolina10.2

Last year, Harvard disrupted a streak not many were speaking about. Since Roger Williams won in the Gorge in 2011, no other team but Yale and Charleston has raised a Wood Trophy amongst a fully formed, non-covid field. This team has a history of winning seemingly against the odds. Though much has changed since 2018, pedigrees such as their tend to be resilient.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
A close 3rd at the Szambecki proves this team is back after an outlier year missing the big dance in 2023. I have them as my last team in the top 8 currently but CGA, SMC, and Dartmouth are all close behind - Dartmouth College11Dartmouth CollegeHanover, New Hampshire10.4
Chris Klevan
Haven't seen much from them. We know that, in a 1-2., they'll be hard to reel back in. But we don't know much beyond that. Myseriously shrouded in the snowwy north, expect this team to rejoin the fold behind some savvy super seniors.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
The Big Green are relatively untested this season, with only a 4th place at the windy Szambecki on their resume thus far. I expect this team to jump back up after racing more of NEISA and with upcoming regattas at venues that play to their strengths - Boston College12Boston CollegeNewton, Massachusetts12.4
Chris Klevan
Versitile and well coached. This team will be no picnic to sail against.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
Their only event at full strength with women's skipper Colleen O'Brien was a close 2nd to Georgetown at the John Jackson. I don't think they've shown us enough to move into the top group of NEISA, but they aren't too far off the pace. I expect to learn more after they match up head to head against many of their peers at the Marchiando this coming weekend, especially considering their women's team will have the weekend off and they have the potential to start their best three coed boats - Tulane University13Tulane UniversityNew Orleans, LA13.6
Chris Klevan
Also green, but they are the green wave. Roll wave!Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
A little hard to rank Tulane with limited head to head matchups against many of their peers thus far. I have them firmly behind the top 6 NEISA teams, the top 3 MAISA teams, Stanford, and Charleston, but firmly ahead of the next group in MAISA and right in the mix with the next NEISA group. I expect we will learn more about where they stand amongst the middle of NEISA after the Marchiando this coming weekend - Tufts University14Tufts UniversityMedford, MA13.8

Young and green. Expect new coach Norfleet, three time Hinman Champion to change that.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
Tufts rebounded after a disappointing couple of finishes against MAISA teams in the early season events with a very strong podum finish at the Friis, winning a close battle with some NEISA peers. The results thus far accurately reflect that this team is volatile, capable of beating nearly any team but not consistent enough to do so reguarly. A week of spring break training against St. Mary's in FJs and 420s did wonders for their progress. Let's see if they can keep the momentum going as they enter team race championship season in NEISA - Old Dominion University15Old Dominion UniversityNorfolk, Virginia14.8

Surprisingly promising start to the spring season. This team is experienced and seem motivated to change their recent woes.Isaac Clark
This team has been working together for a long time to put together a strong spring season. This will be a tough team to beat at their home Prosser this year.Visit School WebsiteJohnny Norfleet
ODU is undoubtedly better than they were last year and have proven they can hang against traditionally higher ranked opponents, especially in breeze. The selection committee is going to have a hard time distinguishing them from the middle of the pack in NEISA for those last few berths at nationals - MIT16MITCambridge, Massachusetts15.6Visit School Website

They've been trading wins with BC for the next best in NEISA behind the usual suspects but haven't really faced anyone from out of conference.I expect we will learn more at the Marchaindo when we should see them match up against a couple out of conference opponents and with the top 10 NEISA teams all in the same place for the first time this season - University of Pennsylvania17University of PennsylvaniaPhiladelphia, PA16.8

Harvard should stay in the top spot despite one bad regatta. It was the storm shortened Friis Trophy in big wind, rain, current, and waves. Eariler they nearly swept the Graham Hall and Wood trophies, winning both over top teams.Chris Klevan
They won the Graham Hall, the premier "opener" of the college sailing team race season after a weekend of healthy appetizers in early march. The weather is getting warmer but this team is already smoking hot, dropping only four races total so far this season, sporting a 45-4 record thus far this season. Only HWS and Cornell prevented Harvard from 1-2-3/ 1-2-4-ing the entriety of the first round of the Graham Hall. The team is set, they have schemistry, experience beyond their age and wheels. This team is meant to be feared for years to come.Johnny Norfleet
The defending champions won in decisive fashion at the Graham Hall but took a bit of a dip finishing decidedly 4th and well behind RWU and Yale at the Friis.
