20 August 2013- We are pleased to announce that Ullman Sails Mid-Chesapeake will join Sail1Design as our newest sponsor, and Sail1Design’s Tom Sitzmann will join Ullman sails, and the loft’s Annapolis-based team.
Sail1Design is dedicated to the youth, high school, college, and one-design sailing communities, and with a growing staff, provides AirWaves News articles, a marketplace and brokerage to shop for your next boat, along with our Sailing Career Center, sailing’s #1 job board and recruitment resource. Sail1Design is based in Annapolis, MD, but has readers, boats, jobs, and employees around the country, and has truly become a national resource for sailing.
Located in Easton on Maryland’s eastern shore, Ullman Mid-Chesapeake is a full-service sail loft, including professional rigging services, new sails from Opti’s to Maxi’s, and everything in between! Says GM Matt Simington, “We at Ullman Sails Chesapeake feel that customer service and a good relationship between sail maker and client are paramount. We pride ourselves on the technology that we incorporate into our sails but it is no substitute for knowing the boat and the client. This is why we strive to provide you with not only the fastest sails on the planet, but great service and a feeling that all you have to do is ring and ask, no matter what the question. Supporting Sail1Design will allow more sailors to hear our message, and having Tom join the team will strengthen our service reach in Annapolis and beyond.
“I am thrilled to return to sail making and to work for a strong, collaborative group like Ullman Sails,” Tom says. “I have always had a great deal of respect for Ullman Sails, the people that work here, and the business philosophy. What even more impressive is the growth that the loft has experienced recently, and I am eager to get started and work with the sailors here on the East Coast, and I am excited to have Ullman Sails join the Sail1Design team.”
A lifelong sailor, Tom has a broad range of sailing experience that will increase the comprehensive service and support available to Ullman Sails customers in the upper Chesapeake Bay. Along with extensive one-design and PHRF racing, he has coastal and blue water experience, cruising and racing along the coast of Maine and now in the Chesapeake Bay. Tom’s offshore experience includes many distance races in New England, a transatlantic passage, a celestially-guided Marion-Bermuda Race, and most recently he took his family to Bermuda aboard their J/120 Airwaves. Tom has one design expertise, competing successfully in the Laser, J/24, and J/22, winning several regional and district championships in those classes both in New England and the Mid-Atlantic. He is now working on a 505 campaign, and help develop Ullman 505 sails.
