Buenos Aires, Argentina-
After eight races over five days, Julio Alsogaray and Malena Sciarra (ARG) sailed a conservative but tactical regatta to win the 2024 Snipe World Championship in their own waters. It had been 29 years since a team accomplished that feat, with Santiago Lange and Mariano Parada in 1995. As they crossed the line in the last race, waving the Argentinian flag, they knew that years of training had paid off for this moment.

Understanding the breeze oscillations on the last day was crucial. Few teams managed to do so, but Alsogaray and Sciarra sailed strongly. Americans Ernesto Rodriguez and Taylor Scheuermann also demonstrated a strong final day by bringing the margin to first place within two points. Bernard Peixoto and Gustavo Baino from Brazil jumped to third during the last two races with a 2-4 score line.
Besides being the top team overall, Alsogaray and Sciarra also won the Bibi Juetz Mixed team trophy. Malena is just the third female crew to add her name to the O’Leary Crew Champion trophy and hopefully there are more to come! Pedro Madureira and Enzo Ricardi (BRA) finished as the top Junior team, and Ricky Fabini/Lore Fundura (URU) were awarded the Earl Elms Perpetual Trophy.
